Historical turnover cannot substitute for current executable depth or prove new money entered an asset.
Ask what was counted
Trading volume summarises executed activity over a specified interval. It may be expressed in the base asset, quote asset or a converted reference currency. A rolling twenty-four-hour figure is not the same interval as a calendar-day candle. Aggregated figures depend on which markets a provider includes and how it treats unreliable observations. Write the interval, unit and venue coverage beside the number before making comparisons.
Turnover can reuse the same inventory
Imagine 100 tokens change hands ten times during a reporting window. The resulting activity can total 1,000 token units even though only 100 distinct tokens participated in this simplified example. A large volume figure therefore does not prove an equally large increase in unique ownership or fresh capital. Each trade has a buyer and seller; inferring a net investment flow requires a different measurement and additional assumptions.
Check compatibility before adding
Spot turnover and derivatives notional measure different activities. Adding them into a single headline without explanation can obscure leverage and duplicate economic exposure. Likewise, quote-currency conversion can change a reported dollar figure even when base-asset activity is similar. For a research spreadsheet, preserve raw values and conversion assumptions so the calculation can be repeated. Do not treat a provider's display precision as evidence that every underlying trade was independently verified.
Pair activity with execution evidence
Compare volume with spreads, book depth or pool liquidity and inspect whether activity is concentrated in a small number of venues. Unusual combinations can justify further investigation, but a discrepancy alone does not prove manipulation. Ask whether withdrawals function and whether the displayed market is accessible to the intended user. A market that was busy yesterday can be thin now. Use volume to describe observed activity, and obtain a fresh executable quote for any separate question about present trading capacity.
